Refit - Before and After
THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION - PLEASE HAVE PATIENCE.
The first thing you will notice is the paint job. We were not a fan of the orange, so we went with a simple blue and white for Moondance, which we think looks very slick.
See the new portholes and the extra bollard on the stern. Also we had a flag to indicate the rudder direction fitted and there is a new plinth above the fittings for the new hydraulic steering. Our lion is still there - but is now at a jaunty angle as there wasn't enough room for him to be installed in line.
The two skylights have been replaced by the pigeon hatch. And we keep a table over the pigeon hatch when we are on board. Also, as the rear diesel heater was removed, there is no longer a chimney. One day we will get around to putting marine carpet down. Notice the hatch on the gas locker which contains our new outdoor shower.
In the hall, we removed the diesel heater and had new shelves put in, and an ikea cupboard. The floor has been lowered too and runs through into the bedroom. The radiator is now against the bathroom wall. Where the old chimney was, we put in a solar powered extraction fan, which we can leave on all winter. The old cupboard is still there, but the diesel tank for the heater has been removed and it has become a handy pantry cupboard.
With the hand-basin on the outer wall, there was no headroom, and no mirror either, so we moved it to the side wall. The new hung toilet doesn't need a plinth and is more natural to sit on - it doesn't feel like a throne.
New sink, with large mirror.
Old door placement and shower. The shower screen folded out when in use to save space. A good idea except that it leaked at the bottom.

New shower cabin - goes 20 cm into master cabin.
New door placement - the shower is on the left in a dedicated cabin, and the washing machine and freezer nestle under the kitchen. The new door is sliding to save space. Notice the step in the doorway - this is to go over the drive shaft now that the floor is lowered. Also handy if ever we have a flood in the bathroom.

The bathroom was completely redesigned. The door was moved closer to the wheelhouse, where the shower used to be, so that we could open up more space under the kitchen, to allow the freezer to be moved here. We also threw away the tiny clothes dryer and washing machine and got a full size washing machine.
The shower is larger and taking up about 20cm of room in the master cabin. We no longer had room for the radiator, so we added a heated towel rail.

The rear cabin had the most changes. In fact the only thing that stayed the same were the portholes and (mostly) the position of the walls. We used steps to deal with the change in floor height and give us maximum headroom. And the chain steering is also gone, so no ducking under that in the middle of the room any more. We have both USB and electrical power points built into the headboard. And the reinstated portholes give us more light and ventilation.
The skylights on each side were replaced by the pigeon hatch. There were new LED lights and lots of built in storage too. The cupboards are deep so there is room on top as well.
In the kitchen the main change was the oven. As well we took the lace curtains down as we are a lot taller than the previous owners and they interrupted our views. We also bought a larger rubbish bin, took away the fire hydrant (as we don't cook with oil like the dutch).
The previous owners didn't use their oven and mostly stored things inside it. When we took the oven away we had to replace the cook-top as well as the switches were integrated.
We replaced the table and chairs and only keep 4 up there. This gives us more room. The new table is also extendable if we ever want that. We still need to get a new rug, as Henk and Rikki took theirs. You cannot really see this, but we replaced the red carpet on the stairs with grey. I found it hard to see the stairs in the dark with the red.
In the wheelhouse itself we have changed the chairs. We don't use them often and these ikea ones are smaller and can even be folded away to make more room. We also had extra power points added.
The old instrument panel had items we would never use like a disconnected phone and a radio. So we had the panel relaid to suit us.
On the left we put house controls and monitors such as the monitors for the electrics, blige pump, and black water tank. The phone and radio were thrown away and the bilge alarm put underneath.

The depth sounder was put onto the panel. Previously it was underneath where you had to crane to see it.
|
And we got a full new panel and instruments labelled in English.
Simple switches are included to make it easy for us. And plenty of warning lights. |
New throttle and AIS. The old TV is gone. And we have walkie talkies and a laptop. The little brass cup holds spare change for power, water and the very occasional toll. The white box behind the wheel is part of the hydraulic steering.
