Haute Sambre 22-30 July We had a lovely week in France on the Haute Sambre with our crew John and Deanne despite record hot weather.
Howard was on a steep learning curve as he had to take over all the tricky helmsman duties that I usually do like getting into narrow locks and along windy narrow rivers. But after a few mishaps on the way upstream, he was much improved on the way back down.

Lobbes and Erquelinnes 18-21 July John and Deanne arrived on Thursday morning and after a social lunch we headed off to Lobbes just over 2kms away, where I had my hospital appointment on Friday morning and there was boat jousting on Saturday.
Abbaye d'Aulne and Thuin on Haute Sambre, Belgium 9-17 July The big news is that I have fallen off my bike and broken my upper arm. Yes, I am sore, uncomfortable and feeling pretty stupid. Those who know me well know that I have broken something in each of the last four years. Not weak bones, just momentary lapses of concentration. Anyway the story of this is later in the blog.
We are currently on the Haute Sambre in Belgium, a lovely quiet river that goes into France, but isn't navigable all the way so we will have to return this way. Through Charleroi 9 July Our journey from Viesvilles took us through Charleroi and the former industrial area along the canal. Now the only activity seemed to be recycling, with even the buildings in use rusted and badly maintained.
Mons, Canal Du Centre and Viesville 5-8 July We planned to explore the boat lifts with my brother Richard (Poo) and his wife Sue. But first a day in the city of Mons.
Pommeroeul and Mons 30/6 - 4/7 After we left the Blaton Ath canal, the plan was to get a few jobs done before my brother and his wife arrive in Mons on Thursday afternoon.
