27-28 July On Thursday we headed for Weesp, which meant starting down the Vecht River past Muiden. Muiden has a famous castle (slot) and a lot of boats.
26 July After our morning in Spakenburg we headed to Naarden and cycled the 2kms to town from the Jachthaven (Marina). Naarden is a star fort with a 12-pointed star, with arrowheads on each tip. It is thought to be the only one in Europe featuring a buffer of two walls and two moats, and was the garrison for Amsterdam for many years.
20-23 July After Zwolle we headed to Kampen along the Ijssel River, where we spent a couple of days, before heading to Harderwijk. Is this Noah's ark?
16-18 July Our good friends Pete and Sue joined us in Meppel and we spent a drizzly raining day there before we set off to Hasselt on the Monday which was a lovely sunny day.
13-15 July After researching Assen we decided that we really only wanted to spend a couple of hours there so we decided to not stay overnight, but to push on towards Meppel instead. Inner Harbour in Meppel
8 to 12 July In Groningen we moored at Reitdiep Haven, which is about 4-5 kms from the city centre.
9 and 10 July Our friends Leona and Jean-Marie, who are captains of a commercial barge, were stuck in Groningen because a bridge was being replaced and the canal was closed, so we went our for dinner. They suggested that we come for a trip with them the next day when the canal re-opened. We made a plan that they would pick us up near to where we are moored, which would give us about 30 minutes to get there once they called us to say they were moving. A 10 minute bike ride and 20 minutes to finalise packing and lock up the boat. Waiting to board
5 and 6 July We headed for Zoutkamp stopping on briefly just before the Lauwersmeer for lunch. Zoutkamp
