Tuesday 27th June Today we went to Meppel again to the hospital, this time to have my cast removed. It was 6 weeks since the accident yesterday, so it was time to unveil the new arm. I had got to the stage where I could grip things a little with my broken arm, even spread soft butter or write a few words. But the skin on my hand had died and was peeling off, and I was sure it would be the same inside the cast. Also it was quite tight so my arm would ache whenever it swelled up even a little from walking or riding. So I was ready for the cast to be off, and was counting down the days. So at the hospital they took off the cast and sent me for an x-ray. All good - although there is some slight displacement which we knew about from the start. Photo: Howard Johns

23 June Today our new crew arrives so we are saying farewell to Workum where we have been based for the last 2 weeks.
20 and 21 June We made a trip to Rotterdam and Vlaardingen to pick up my residency card. Valid until 2022 - Yay! And finalise the paperwork for my BSN (Citizen's number) with Vlaardingen City Hall.
Monday 19th June Today we took a short bus ride to the town of Bolsward. It is one of the 11 Fresian Towns that the ice skating race goes to and was on our original itinerary. We had a pleasant walk around and enjoyed an ice cream As we understand it, the Broerekerk was largely destroyed in a fire, but instead of tearing it down they put a glass roof on it and use it for functions. Very impressive.
This weekend we stayed on the Workum area. On Saturday we came across a Canal Vaulting competition in a nearby village and on Sunday we went to the beach. What a great weekend. The weather was perfect too.
Friday 16th June On Friday we went to Sneek (pronounced Snake). It is only 15 minutes on the train from here and the train runs hourly. Sneek is a regional centre and some say the centre for watersports in Friesland. Waterpoort or Sneek Gate
13-14 June Since still cannot move the boat, we decided to do an overnight trip to Enkhuisen. Enkhuisen is on the other side of the Ijsselmeer, and we have been told about the great museum there the Zuidersee Museum.
Sunday 11 June As we cannot move the boat until my arm is a little better we decided to ride down to Hindeloopen, a small town just 7 kms away.
I started riding my bike again after I had the full cast put on just over a week ago, but this was the longest ride I have attempted. We have lowered my seat so that I can sit on the bike before I take off. Also my new bike is a step through ladies bike so is a lot easier to manage. On Thursday morning the wind had abated enough for us to finally set off to Workum. The plan was to cruise for about 3 and a half hours on Thursday, and moor wild. Then have a simple one hour trip into Workum on Friday morning.
