Ruyaulcourt Tunnel, Moislains, Peronne FR 23-25 April 2022 We finished this part of our trip on the Canal du Nord at Peronne where we will turn off for the Somme. We had some more adventures on the Canal du Nord, including travelling along a 4.5km tunnel, and then getting up close and personal with another barge, before spending some time in Peronne. Waiting for a lock - note the guillotine door at the other end of the lock letting another boat out downstream of us.

Arques, Bethune, Douai, Arleux, Havrincourt FR 18-22 April 2022 We have gotten a reservation at Cappy on the Somme for the 27th April. This will allow us to visit friends in the Netherlands for a couple of days while we are in Rotterdam to complete our biometrics for our Residency. But it does mean we don't have a lot of time to stop off, so we are travelling each day. In Nord, the land is fairly flat, but as we head south there are more and more locks. It is quite interesting to see the differences. Canal du Nord at Havrincourt
12-17 April 2022 Ieper, Fintele, Veurne BE, Dunkirk, Clairmarais, St Omer, Arques FR Well we were finally able to leave Ieper and head into France. After a few dramas on our first day we have made good progress, although we are having an enforced day off cruising today (easter Sunday) as the locks here are closed. Ieper BE, Bergues FR, Roeslare BE 8-12 April 2022 As promised, Davy and his son Willem visited the boat on Friday to install the new Kabola central heating boiler. After a long day, it was installed, making the boat comfortable again. Unfortunately he wouldn't have time for the other few jobs we needed doing until Tuesday, so we were still unable to start cruising.
But that didn't stop us from having a few more adventures. Arras FR 5-8 April 2022 We arrived in Arras on Tuesday afternoon and settled into our small apartment. It was located on la Petite Place (now known as la Place des Heroes). The other famous square in Arras was nearby (la Grande Place), and our car parking was under that square.
Both squares are delightful and picturesque, but la Petite Place was a pedestrian zone and so was more picturesque, and had a market there on Wednesday morning just outside our door. Ieper BE 1-4 April 2022 In my last post I was very smug about being warm when the weather was so cold. But late on Friday afternoon we found that our Kabola central heating boiler was losing water and generating a lot of steam through the exhaust. Howard found that water was leaking from the main central unit. Not good! So that meant trying to get someone to help us on Friday evening. After a few phone calls we found that Davy, who has been working on our kitchen, has recently become a Kabola agent. He came out that evening to assess the damage, and found that it had completely disintegrated inside - it had rusted through and all the heat bricks had turned to mush. It would need replacing. So he was busy trying to locate a new boiler for us.
Ieper BE 27 March - 1 April 2020 Howard and I are very pleased to be back on board Moondance. We have had a productive week doing varous jobs about the place, while waiting for a part for our steering to arrive. We are dry, warm and comfortable on board, which is great since the weather has turned and it has been snowing. But it looks like we will be delayed as it is forecast stong winds for the next week.
