21 August We set out at about 9:30 on Tuesday morning for our trip to Het Bosch on the Niewe Meer in South Amsterdam. The Marina had been recommended to us by someone in the DBA who winters there and we had made a booking for 2 weeks.
We turned into the Westerkanaal at about 10:30 and then had to go through 9 mobile bridges followed by a lock and then 4 high bridges very close together, before coming out in the Nieuwe Meer after a couple of hours.

16-20 August On Thursday we set out for Alkmaar with our friends Jean-Marie and Leona on board.
14-16 August After Amsterdam we headed for Zaandam less than an hour away.
We explored the town on our first afternoon, before stopping for a drink. I ordered a milkshake and look what I got!!! 3-8 August In the end it was lucky that we went to Monnickendam earlier than originally planned. The weather was mostly fine and warm, ideal for all our outdoor activities. But it started raining on Wednesday and so it will be better to be in Amsterdam.
2-3 August We set off from Haarlem as planned on Thursday morning. The bridges officially open at 9 am, however we had seen previous mornings that there was quite a queue of boats waiting by the time the bridge keeper finally arrived on his bike after opening another bridge down the road at 9am. So we stayed moored until the last minute. Only after the bridge was open at 9:20 and the one boat coming the other way had gone through did we go, and then we headed through the bridge as the last in a line of 11 boats. Boats sharing the lock at Spaarne
30 July - 2 August We spent three nights in Haarlem. This city is now only a 15 minute train ride from Amsterdam, but it still has quite a separate history and character.
