15-22 May We have now been in Mechelen a week. When we arrived on Tuesday evening and moored in a 24 hour mooring. But my cold developed into a bad virus and we ended up spending a whole week here. Most of that time I spent in bed. Howard was able to take advantage of the break and did some jobs around the place, as well as doing a couple of rides. I managed to take a short walk on Thursday evening and was also feeling well enough today for another walk. We therefore walked into town and had a lovely lunch at a Bistro. We then had a further look around, including a visit to the cathedral, and then took a tourist boat along the canal. Howard's jobs included replacing the skirting in the wheelhouse, painting the porthole panel on the starboard side, re-varnishing 2 windows, and touching up the varnish on the instrument panel in the wheelhouse. A highlight of the week was turning the boat around on Sunday so that he could do the work on the starboard side. Sunday was a great day to turn around as there was no commercial traffic and the only other boat that moors here was away for the day. Of course Howard also cleaned all the water filters for the house and the engine, now that we are in a clean canal. Tomorrow we are heading off to Lier.
