Jachthaven De Brasem 10-15 May Our trip back back to Moondance didn't start well with me getting food poisioning on the plane, we think from my gluten-free special meal. But we arrived, and despite the forecast for rain, it was a glorious sunny day. We spent the weekend setting up the boat, and on Sunday night, Rudd and Petra, our good Dutch friends joined us for dinner at the local restaurant. Monday morning was still, so I was out with my camera. On Monday morning we had the first fitting for the new canopy. Our welder came to attach the pipes needed for the canopy poles. I was quite nervous as we weren't quite sure what we would end up with. But they have devised an ingenious and simple way of attaching it using bungee cord and carbiners, it is very straight forward to set up and take down. Unfortunately they have had to make some minor alterations, and even after a second visit on Tuesday it isn't finished so they will send it to us. They have also made some shades for the wheel house side windows which attach with press studs, this will really help during hot weather. On Monday night our friend Tim dropped by for a drink, and Tuesday morning Howard went down to Alphen aan den Rijn to help Tim put his boat back in the water after their dry dock. Tim lent him his car so it was only about 20 mins drive away. On Monday our replacement batteries arrived, and Tuesday our electrician came to install them. While he was here he installed a new switch so that we can turn our hot water off and on from the instrument panel in the wheel house. On Tuesday afternoon, after Howard had a chat with the mechanic who had looked after the boat during the winter, we started up the engine, and (after recharging the battery) started up the generator too. All is working well. In the evening we had a surprise visit from Gary who was on his way back to his boat from the UK and came across our marina and stopped by for a cuppa. It was nice to catch up with him as he and his wife Jill have been located mostly in the North of the Netherlands so we don't see them much. On Wednesday, Peter, the guy who services our Kabola central heating, came over to replace the silencer on the exhaust pipe which had rusted through.
That done we just have clean up to do to be ready to commence cruising in the morning.
