Monday 15th May Photo - Howard Johns - waiting for taxi home from hospital For those that know me well this may come as no surprise - I have broken my arm. After a morning of shopping and jobs we were just hanging out the clothes on the back deck and I tripped on a ring that is there to tie down the table. I put out may hand and broke my arm. I knew immediately what I'd done it by the unusual shape. I got Howard to arrange doctor or hospital while our guests Deb and Pete stayed with me. I managed to take a couple of Paracetemol and a couple of Ibuprofen, but every time I went to sit up I got very dizzy. In the end Howard called for an ambulance and I was able walk off the boat in easy stages, with help and lots of rests. Off to the hospital in Meppel about 12 kms away, with Howard. According to the paramedic my heart rate was 55 and blood pressure was 100/55 - no wonder I was dizzy. The staff at the hospital were very good. I had an x-ray that showed i had broken both bones near my wrist, one in 2 places. I was very nervous when they went to reset the bones. They gave me a local anaesthetic but they didn't wait for it to take effect. Then the doctor, who had a tremor in one hand, and another person basically put tension on my arm by stretching it between my elbow and hand, and then put the bones back in place. They didn't let Howard stay to watch, which was just as well. It was incredibly painful, and I was crying out with pain much of the time. But finally it was done. Then they put on the interim plaster, which is solid on only one side, this is so that it can stretch as my arm swells up. They then took another x-ray to make sure that everything was in the right place. Then we paid the bill, had a drink and snack (we hadn't had lunch), then a taxi home. We will have to return to Meppel next week for a checkup and to put on the permanent plaster. We decided to stay in Steenwijk another day to give me time to recover a bit. I am quite shaken up and have also banged my other elbow which is very tender. Photos - Peter Court.

That's dreadfully bad luck Deb. I hope you can work out a way to keep travelling oneself Pete and Deb leave. We were lucky when Lisette hurt her hands that we had guests who could take over. That genny is being a real problem. What are the plans to fix it?

oops, terrible break in luck, hope it heals well and quickly, i'm sure you can still steer with the other arm, and you can always learn to drink left handed.

Oh, no, Deb! So sorry for you! It sounds very painful. I'm glad you could rest a bit, host a party, and let Howard navigate Moondance a wee bit!
