14-21 October Ronda Our final stop on our Spain adventure was the Costa Del Sol where we had a week booked for some R&R and look around the area. On the Sunday we drove from Granada it was pouring with rain for most of the way so we could only see the views through the rain most of the time and we didn't stop in Nerja as we had intended. Instead we stopped at Torremolinos. This was not a Spanish town as we were used to. The influx of British and Irish tourists and ex-pats meant that English was almost the first language and most of the restaurant menus were very influenced by the Anglo customers. We went to one of the top rated restaurants from Trip Advisor to feel like we'd arrived in a British cafe where the favourite menu item was the cooked English breakfast (which Howard ordered and loved). After our meal we had a walk around the shops and the beach, before setting off to our time-share apartment in Sitio de Calahonda We were very happy with our apartment and the resort. Our apartments was newly renovated and the resort had 2 pools (one heated), and had a minibus that would drive us to the shops, the beach or to one of the other nearby resorts in the chain. After a day of rest on Monday, we drove to Ronda on Tuesday. This was about 90 minutes drive away and is one of the pueblo blancos (white towns) or Andalucia. Ronda was originally built on a rocky outcrop and had a only a bridge connecting it to the rest of the cliff. In addition to this roman bridge there is now two other bridges - the old or arab bridge and another very impressive bridge built in 18th century called the new bridge - which is 120m tall. The town has now spread out onto the plateau, and we enjoyed walking through the new and old parts of town. Including a stop for churros and a walking tour of the old town. On Wednesday afternoon we took the mini bus to the beach (playa) and hired a couple of sunbeds. Howard went for a swim in the Mediterranean, and we had a pleasant couple of hours relaxing on the beach. On Wednesday night we went to the Flamenco night put on by the resort. It was "Flamenco Fusion" so included some modern dance and even some ballet. Whilst quite enjoyable, we decided we would go to another flamenco venue while we were in the area. Thursday we visited to the Mijas Pueblo, another pueblo blanco set in the hills above the Costa Del Sol. This was a pleasant little town with plenty of tourists and developments, and spectacular views. Unfortunately while there, I started feeling ill and we had to cancel the rest of our plans for the week and I spent a couple of days in bed, before we flew home on Sunday. Luckily we had a nice apartment and Howard was able to amuse himself.
