Samois-sur-Seine, Melun, Evry, Ablon, FR 5-8 August 2023 We left Montereau-Fault-Yonne on Saturday heading upstream on the Seine. Sunset at Ablon The first part of our trip on the Siene was new ground for us. We stopped at Saint Mammés for fuel, and then continued onto the stretch of the Seine that we had travelled 3 times before. When we got to our destination at Samois-sur-Seine, it looked like the mooring was completely full, with even someone moored double, so we reveresed back to moor on the small island just before the town. It was quite a good mooring, although with no services. We took our bikes off to head into town for a look around and discovered that our friend Rachel was on the mooring in her boat Casavargo. She was alone as her husband had to make a trip back to the US. She offered for us to moor alongside, so after a quick look around town we moved up to moor alongside. We invited Rachel to join us an the local italian restaurant for dinner which was good fun. In the morning we set off for Melun. Rachel came out to send us on our way. In Melun, Martyn and Howard had a walk around the town and then I met them at a restaurant in the main square for lunch. In the afternoon they had a fish at the top of the island. We left the next morning to Evry. At the first lock, one of the basins wasn't working so we had to go into the remaining one, which had sloping sides, with dolphins (large mooring poles) to moor on. As the dolphins were 20m apart and we are 21m, we had quite a challenge, however we ended up negotiating it safely. Other than that the trip was fairly simple. 9After lunch at Evry, Howard and Martyn checked our navigation lights (as we'd be going through a tunnel in a couple of days) and found that we had a problem. Unfortunately the multi-metre battery was flat and we didn't have a spare so we went in search of a replacement. We ended up having a tour of the town as it took 6 tries to find a shop that had the replacement 9 volt batteries in stock (we now have a spare). We had a fairly short cruise the following day so Howard and Martyn got up early for a fish, and I had a sleep in. Our trip to Ablon was fairly straight forward. Howard and Martyn managed to get in another fish in the evening, before we had our last dinner before Martyn left on the back deck. We were surprised to see a large commercial come out of the lock and go really slowly, until we realised that he was putting down spud poles to moor for the night. In the morning Howard walked up to the local station with Martyn who was off to catch the Eurostar back to the UK. We then headed off towards the Marne, our last downstream stretch of the Seine. And then we turned off at the chinese restaurant onto the Marne - hard to miss.
