24 April As we stayed a little longer a Ypres in order to attend the Anzac ceremony, we took our hire car out for 2 days instead of just one so that we could do a day trip to Dunkirk which is only about an hours drive away. To us, Dunkirk is famous for the evacuation of British Troupes in 1940, so our first stop was to the museum Dunkerque 1940 - Operation Dynamo. This was very interesting and explained much about the evacuation and situation in France. By the time we had finished at the museum and had a look at the beach and memorial, we went into town, only to find everything closed. Even the parking was free over lunch time. So we had lunch at a local cafe "Wall Street", before walking around the town. The town hall was an impressive building with lovely stained glass windows. The church still had bullet holes in the facade. On the way home we stopped at De Panne in Belgium. This is a beach resort. Out of season it was quiet but it was obviously popular over the summer with lots of development going on. We also stopped in Veurne where we are off to next, to look at the mooring. We met and had a cuppa with Chris and Diana Grant who are moored there and are DBA members.

Glad you got to Dunkirk - I would like to go there one day as my dad got his back trouser pocket shot off on the beach - thankfully he got off with the other blessed ones. Too many lost!
