Toulouse FR 6-8 June 2022 I left the boat on Monday morning and after a taxi and two trains and a flight, I reached Toulouse to catch up with friends. Six of us were in a Women's Group at Stanford and have been close friends ever since, although separated by distance. One of the group, Janet, owns a farmhouse with her partner Pater in the Perigord region of France. She came to the Toulouse airport to pick three of us up. Due to various reasons each of us flew in on a different day, but it did give us a bit of time to look around Toulouse. Pont Neuf Janet and Peter picked me up from the airport. We had an amusing trip to our apartment in Toulouse, as we were chatting so much we missed many turns in the city where there are many narrow one way streets. In the evening we walked to a nearby restaurant and I was able to take a few photos. Peter and Janet On Tuesday Janet dropped Peter at the airport to fly home to the USA and we had a little time to look around before picking up Eliza at the airport. After picking up Eliza we headed out for a drink and tapas on a nice square (check out the parking). Then we went to a different restaurant for dinner. Our apartment looks out over the river (Garonne) and we went down there in the evening for me to take photos of the Pont Neuf (new bridge - not that new now). See the photo at the top. In the morning we went out for breakfast, another walk in a different direction. Then we decided to take a hop-on-hop-off bus tour as it had started raining. Unfortunately the bus was totally fogged up (and the driver didn't put on the AC), so we didn't get a good view of many of the sites. But after the tour the weather cleared and we were able to walk around. We headed for the Basilique Saint-Sernin de Toulouse, which had looked nice from the bus. Then we headed towards the river, and over the river towards the St Cyprien area. From there we caught a taxi back to where we had parked the car and headed out towards the airport to pick up Sandy, the last of this little sub-group.
Unfortunately, on the way, we learned that Sandy had missed her connection in Frankfurt and wouldn't get to Toulouse until 11pm. So after a conversation we decided to stay the night near the airport and drive to the Perigord in the morning. We were lucky to find a 4 bedroom apartment at the last minute. We still went to the airport to pick up the extra rental car that we needed. We went out for a meal and I went to bed while Janet and Eliza picked up Sandy from the airport. So finally we were all together ready for our trip to the Perigord.
