Josselin, Vannes, Golfe de Morbihan, Quiberon, Carnac, Rochefort-en-Terre, Rennes 2-7 September 2022 Between my French Immersion Course and my Photographic Tour I had a few days on my own. My first stop was Josselin, on my way to Vannes. Right on queue it started raining when I arrived and only stopped when I left. However after the intial downpour it was just drizzling so I was able to have a walk around. From there I drove to Vannes and settled into my AirBNB apartment. On Saturday morning there was a market at the end of the street. It was an interesting market with everything from flowers, fruit and veggies to clothes and mattresses. It seems that the locals had their favourite stalls and were willing to queue up. In the afternoon I got out the folding bike and headed down to take a cruise on the Golfe de Moriban. This bay has about 40 islands and is well sheltered and claims to be one of the the world's most beautiful bays. It has only a narrow opening to the ocean, about 1km wide, so the current near there is very strong. On Sunday I decided to head down to the Quiberon Peninsula to take a Petit Train, however when I arrived, there was triathlon taking place, so the Petit Train was cancelled for the day. So instead I only had a little look around. I also planned to do the Petit Train in Carnac, which was operating. Carnac is most well know for it's alignments of neolithic standing stones, over 3000, lined up for over a km in some cases. These alignments were erected around 4-5000 years BC, and no-one knows for sure what they were about, but they are very impressive. And the Petit Train was an ideal way for me to see them. There was also a information building that had a short film about them. After that I headed to the beach for a late lunch, before heading back home to Vannes. Monday was my final day in Vannes and I decided to take the Petit Train to look around. It's starting point wasn't far from my apartment, so I wandered down, only to find that the tour that I wanted to do was already fully booked, so I had to wait for over an hour for the following train. The tour was quite good, but made me realise what a great location my apartment was in as we passed by my street at least 3 times. Many of the streets we went down were very narrow, and were not open to normal traffic. After the tour I went to creperie nearby and then walked back up for a better look at the ramparts. On Tuesday I went to Rochefort-en-Terre on the way to Rennes, my last stop on this mini tour. This village is one the "Plus Beaux Villages de France" (most beautiful villages in France), and it really lived up to it's name. My last afternoon was forecast to be rainy, so I took the bike out in the morning for a look around Rennes. In 1720 there was a massive fire in Rennes, so there are only a few pockets of very old buildings, and plenty of 18th century ones too. One of the main Brittany canals goes through Rennes too. So that ends my mini-tour. On Friday morning I join my photography tour, which should be fun.
