7-14 October After Pam and Stuart left us on the Saturday morning, we had a week in Diksmuide to pack up the boat. The weather was colder and on some days windy and after a busy season I was happy to take some time off and nurse my upset tummy. Diksmuide is right in the heart of the WWI Flanders battlefields, and there was no building untouched after the war. Much of the town has been completely rebuilt after the war, in older styles. There are pyramid information boards around town with information about the war. Some of the photos show the complete devastation. Although we didn't do much touristing while we were there we did have a look around the church. We are looking forward to coming back next year when all the work being done around the main square will have finished. This was the first time we have winterised the boat ourselves so we had to work out what to do. Luckily we had Carole and Barry on Silk Purse who were able to give us some good advice. We are very happy to leave her with Pol the harbour master and Davy the mechanic/handy man who will do a few jobs on her. It was a bittersweet farewell to Moondance on Saturday. We have had a fun, eventful and interesting year and are looking forward to coming back next year for more adventures, so we were a little sad to say goodbye. But we are also looking forward to going back to Melbourne for the Australian summer and seeing family and friends. Farwell Moondance
