Corbie, Mericourt, Eclusier-Vaux, Feuillères FR 20-27 June 2022 Monday morning was the final clean up at Amiens before we drove to Corbie to the boat. Howard arrived back from the Netherlands a little later, after being caught in traffic in Antwerp. Jim and Jen followed him back to Amiens to give him a lift back after dropping off his car. Janet stayed for lunch but headed back to her hotel near Charles de Gaulle airport in the afternoon, as she had an early plane to catch in the morning. Sandy, Jen, Deb and Janet - Photo Jennifer Adkisson. Howard had returned from the Netherlands with 2 dutch gas bottles so we could finally use our BBQ again (the connections are different in France). We decided to stay in Corbie for an extra night to recover from our activities over the past few week, so it was nice to have a relaxing evening, and next day. On Wednesday we cruised with our guests Sandy, Jen and Jim, to Mericourt. We moored at the lock there and in the afternoon Jen and I took the bikes to visit the nearby towns of Mericourt and Étinehem. The afternoon was heating up and we watched some kids jumping off the bridge in front of the boat, and mucking about in the river next to the canal. This inspired us to have a dip ourselves. What a great idea - very refreshing. Sandy had taken some videos of the kids jumping off the bridge and their ring-leader offerred to take this photo for us. He also wanted to jump off our boat, which we let them do, although not from the roof which they preferred. In the morning I took a few photos of our mooring and former lock keepers house. On Thursday we headed to Eclusier Vaux. Sandy, Jim and Jen went for a walk in the afternoon, while Howard and I didn't stray far from the boat. In the evening we went to the restaurant just on the other side of the bridge. It was a lovely setting with our table on the lawn overlooking a lake. It really was a lovely evening and Jim and Jen's last on the boat. In the morning the taxi I had booked for Jim and Jen arrived early, and we had to go out to meet it in the middle of a downpour. Sandy was staying another day and she and I spent most of the day working on some projects we were doing together. In the morning we had booked a taxi for Sandy and the driver arriver 40 minutes early, we invited him on board to wait while Sandy had breakfast and finished her preparations. Later, Howard and I cycled into Bray, about 6kms away, to get provisions at the supermarket. On the way we found the local cemetary had some WWI war graves, both French and Commonwealth. In the afternoon we cycled up to the Belvedere de Frise where there was a spectacular view over the canal and braided river. Our final stop on the Somme was Feuillères where we stayed for a couple of nights to get some work done on the boat. We had enjoyed our time on the Somme, with its challenges, its fishing, the towns and the history.
