We have been in Elburg for a week now. We are slowly getting organized. Howard has fished a couple of times and we have done quite a few shopping trips, especially to Gamma – the hardware store. Yesterday our latest painter, Cor, started on the boat. He is a friendly Dutchman who runs a camping site in the Pyrenees with his wife most of the year and returns to Elburg for the winter. He is only here until the 30th so we hope to have the painting finished (or as close as possible) by then. Howard is helping out to speed up the process and we think someone else will be coming tomorrow as well. Also yesterday I borrowed Mandy’s sewing machine so I have been able to finish the curtains in our bedroom, and today started the curtains for the bathroom. Last evening Captain Henk came by to look at our motor. Out motor shares its cooling system with our generator, and there was a valve in the generator that was open that should have been closed (or vice versa). That seems to be the cause of our water loss so that is an easy fix. Unfortunately he did find water in the oil, so he has decided to change the oil for both the engine and generator to see if there really is a problem, or it is just that the engines haven’t been used much in the past few years. He will also look at the throttle, but said it may just be old and need replacing. He will be back next week. Erik, our carpenter returned twice this week. We now have some extra shelves in our cupboards in the bedroom, and some new shelves in the hall. Also the blind for our pigeon hatch is installed which means we will have block out (so a sleep in) and fly screen when we get to midge, fly or mosquito territory. We have had a few problems with our heater which we hope are now fixed, and we think we now have the oven worked out as well – just use the non-fan settings or turn on the generator (when that works again. We have also ordered an outside “party” table, which we hope to have delivered to Elburg next week. We have also discovered, the Kringloopwinkel – the second hand store. We bought a nest of coffee tables, some kitchen utensils, some work clothes, some waterproof trousers for me, and a couple of trays. It is great. View from the supermarket car park
We found out this morning that our application for a BSN (Citizen’s number) will take 6 weeks, not 2 as we were first told. That means no bank account or internet plan until that comes through. We are disappointed, as we were expecting it any day. And we have found an internet plan that will give us unlimited internet on the boat which will be sooo good. In the mean time we get by on pre-paid. We are pleased to be in Elburg where we have friendly people we know. It is a lovely town, but as it is not that large, so we will make a trip to Zwolle at some point for some bigger purchases like our BBQ.

Everywhere has potential for mossies, not necessarily plagues but it only takes one when you are trying to doze off!
