Sunday 11 June As we cannot move the boat until my arm is a little better we decided to ride down to Hindeloopen, a small town just 7 kms away. I started riding my bike again after I had the full cast put on just over a week ago, but this was the longest ride I have attempted. We have lowered my seat so that I can sit on the bike before I take off. Also my new bike is a step through ladies bike so is a lot easier to manage. I still cannot grip the handle bars, so no rear breaks and no changing gears, but there are few hills here (just going on or off dykes or over bridges), so that is not really a problem, and I avoid traffic (pedestrians, bikes or cars) as much as practical. Hindeloopen is another cute little town, on the shores of the Ijsselmeer. It was part of the Hanseatic league, and apparently they even developed their own language and had quite distinctive arts and decorations. It took a while to get there as we were cycling against the wind. So we first went and had lunch at a small cafe, and then visited the museum and church. Then we a look around the beaches and harbour. The grassy dyke protecting the town was home to sheep which made for quite a rural scene. There were plenty of kite and windsurfers around. The old lock seems to no longer in use. Our trip home was a lot quicker as we went with the wind, but I was glad to get home and have a rest.

Lovely weather and great photos. The last, of the ducks and geese was utterly charming.
