There is very little left to get completed in the boat, but with broken arm we do not want to cruise unless we have additional crew. On Thursday evening my brother and his wife arrived to stay with us for a few days. Richard is a marine diesel mechanic so were interested to hear what he had to say about our motor and systems. We did a nice walk around Kampen and i did manage to take a few photos. This morning we left for Urk. This is a fishing village that is over a 1000 years old. it used to be an island in the Zuiderzee, but is now part of Flevoland on the shores of the Ijsselmeer a freshwater lake. They are having a fishing festival, so we'd been told to get here early if we wantd to find a berth. As we entered the harbour Howard saw a space we would fit so we did a quick u-turn in a break in the traffic and got the mooring. We had a nice walk around this picturesque town, especially enjoying the boats jostling for position. From the water it had looked like the town was surrounded by wind turbines but there were just lines of them along the coast, however but the are so tall they look like they tower over the town. It was a hot day so lots of people went to the beach which was just the other side of the sea wall from where we were moored. And I think they all came on bikes. By the end the day we had 5 wooden tjalks rafted up alongside us - a group from Gaastmeer. At most places boats were 3 or 4 deep against the wall. I have never seen a port so busy. We had a nice meal in town and were having a cuppa on the back deck watching a barge manoeuvre in the harbour. Richard thought that the might be doing fire works and sure enough at 11pm we were treated to fireworks only about 150m away. We had a great view from the back deck.
