25-30 July We left Leiden on Wednesday intending to find a mooring somewhere amongst the Kaagerplassen, the lakes just north of Leiden. Our plan was to spend a night there before heading to Haarlem. But at our first target mooring there was a sign saying not for boats over 15m. This seemed to be the case for all the moorings in that area, so we headed off to another mooring further north that was recommended in the Barge Association website. We found a mooring at Keverhaven where there were friendly harbour masters and a lovely set up on two islands. Google Maps picture with mooring position of Moondance in Blue
Howard also went fishing a couple of times catching a couple of good bream, a few nice roach, but mainly small skimmers (Steve H. take note). We also bought half a kilo of smoked eel from one of our neighbours who was smoking it on the spot, as well as ordering some fish from an arriving guest who was also a fishmonger. The last of our three smoked eels There were many interesting boats who stayed at Keverhaven, including a large ship which was hosting a bunch of scouts. Most visitors were families, some staying for a couple of weeks. Some just for a few hours. They were enjoying relaxing and playing about on the water. Even though the weather wasn't as nice on the weekend, we still had a nice time. We watched a movie, played cards, read books etc. We really enjoyed our very dutch break. Whilst on the islands we heard from friends and the harbour master that some bridges were not operational due to the hot weather, and we had an email from our marina in Amsterdam saying that you couldn't get into the marina at the moment as their bridge was stuck. On Monday morning we headed out and just before the turn off to Haarlem we had to wait for about an hour as a bridge was broken. When they finally mended it there were a lot of boats waiting. They decided to open it for the boats going North to South to go through first, then clear the car traffic and open it for boats travelling South to North. By the time the bridge was opened to us there was quite a flotilla waiting. This included three old large sailing barges, an old navy patrol boat that we had moored up against while we waited, and a collection of smaller cruisers and yachts. This group went through as a convoy all the way to Haarlem.

Steve H did note Thank you. That first photo is beautiful. What a wonderful few days. I like Howard's flesh coloured cossie.
