29-30 May We arrived in Lier on Wednesday 23rd after a trip on the tidal waters of the Rupel River. We spent a quiet time that afternoon and Thursday (although I did visit the doctor on Thursday morning about my presistent cold - accidentally going to a different doctor than the one I had booked). Friday morning Howard had arranged for the second hand store to collect our old furniture, but they were unable to work out where to go, so he had to moved the furniture back onto the boat. We were in Gent Friday to Monday for the DBA Rally, so we didn't get to have a good look around Lier until Tuesday. It is another lovely city. One of our first stops was the Beguinage. The town hall dominates the Great Market Square (Grote Markt). And inside were some lovely rooms. We had lunch near the Vissmarkt and there was some sculpture exhibition on there. On the front of the Zimmer Tower, is the the Jubilee (or Centenary) Clock, which (according to Wikipedia) consists of 12 clocks encircling a central one with 57 dials. These clocks show time on all continents, phases of the moons, times of tides and many other periodic phenomena. On the side are some paintings of workers. We also visited the Saint Gummarus church. And of course lots of other sites. On Wednesday we had planned to go to Leuven for the day on the train. But we had been chasing up to get someone to check our fire extinguishers and he was available in Wednesday morning so we decided to stay with the boat and get that done. It was a hot day, and I had even worse hay fever. Another comment about this mooring - no fishing - even from the boat. So Howard has had to go along the bank a bit to do his fishing.

More lovely photos Deb. Shame about the fishing - looks like a good place to catch one or two Howard. Xx
