4-5 May We had beautiful weather for our stop in Bruges. On Friday we took a bike ride to the nearby village of Damme, which used to be the port for Bruges but is now inland. It was a lovely little town. We saw three different storks nests in chimneys in town, and had a good look around. The church had a ruin at the back and an interesting grave yard. On Saturday morning we went to the local market, where we had a look around and bought some vegetables. After a delightful pastry and coffee we then went into the centre of town, which was extremely busy with tourists. On both days we did some cycling around the ring canal which used to go the whole way around Bruges. There are still 4 intact Poorts or city gates and 4 windmills. Each is quite different. As well, there are a couple of different old towers and some parks. On Saturday night we had a lovely meal at restaurant not far from the main market square (Nous). At 49 EUR a head, we had the experience menu with 7 courses - each of which was delicious. We were delighted with the meal. Then we took a couple of night photos on our way home. Not far from where we were moored was a large number of mobile homes, ranging from small caravans to large homes that needed a prime mover to transport them. We wondered if the circus was in town.
