19 September We arrived in Mons yesterday and had a very quite afternoon. We are moored on the Le Grand Large (literally the big wide). Howard fished this morning and there was also a junior sailing race. We then cycled into town and had a look around. Mons was the European Capital of Culture in 2015 and they have obviously done a lot to clean up the city and introduce museums etc. It was quite lovely. We went into Saint Waudru Collegiate Church, which was well laid out and interesting. There was also a unique arch like construction that was built for 2015 and is still there. Quite interesting. In the late afternoon we went to the St Symporium Military cemetery, about 4kms out of town, that had both British and German graves from WWI. It was quite lovely with green lawns and different areas at different heights with well maintained gardens. Mons is known as the first and last, as the first and last British soldiers to die in WWI died here. Back on the boat we had a lovely sunset.

Well at last a descent photo. Nobody wants to see all these amazing photos of beautiful buildings and stunning scenery. They just want more photos of Howard and and his fish. More power to the fisherman I say.
