26 July After our morning in Spakenburg we headed to Naarden and cycled the 2kms to town from the Jachthaven (Marina). Naarden is a star fort with a 12-pointed star, with arrowheads on each tip. It is thought to be the only one in Europe featuring a buffer of two walls and two moats, and was the garrison for Amsterdam for many years. But we had a good look around. The fortress walls were very impressive and well maintained. In the evening we had a lovely meal at a local brasserie and then cycled home in the dusk.
What a great day with Spakenburg in the morning and Naarden in the afternoon.
