10-12 July Firstly, the bow thruster is fixed. It was a simple problem, a shearing pin had sheared. Our mechanic said there should be two and we only had one. The other one may have worked it's way out, leaving too much pressure on the remaining pin. A simple fix - and now we know to replace them every 3 years. We stayed in Rotterdam three nights and was able to catch up with our friends Mike and Sophie and their kids two of those nights which was great. We had a great mooring at the Rotterdam Marina, but was asked to move after 2 nights as another big boat was coming in. This we did, which gave us a good test for our bow thruster. No boat turned up though. The photos above show our original mooring and where we moved to, just around the corner. On Wednesday we did a short cycle around the local area including the island. On Thursday we went to Kinderdijk. This is a UNESCO world heritage site. There are 19 windmills there which all used to be used for moving water out of the marshes to make them suitable for farming. We cycled there and so had our bikes to look around the area. On the way home we took the water bus with our bikes so had some great views of Rotterdam. We then cycled over to the Parksluis - the lock we would go through the next day. Then cycled home via the Maastunnel under the river. As well having separate tunnels for cars going in each direction, they also have a separate tunnel for bikes and pedestrians. Only problem is you have to take your bike on the old escalator, which took a little getting used to. We had a pleasant meal at a restaurant overlooking our harbour, and were ready for our next adventure.

So glad the mechanical issues were easily resolved.
