Friday 16th June On Friday we went to Sneek (pronounced Snake). It is only 15 minutes on the train from here and the train runs hourly. Sneek is a regional centre and some say the centre for watersports in Friesland. Waterpoort or Sneek Gate Our first stop was the Fries Scheepvaart Museum. This museum has a lot of information about shipping and boats in friesland - historical and current - as well as information about the city of Sneek and even some about ice-skating. We loved the drawings of Peter Dorleijn showing life working a peat barge. After the museum we took a guided cruise around the city. The bridges were very low so for some we had to sit in the bottom of the boat. It was great to see the city from the water as we will not get here on our boat. Then, after a quick lunch and a visit to the museum's library, we took some time to wonder around and do some shopping. We even saw a wedding party. On the way home we stopped at Ijlst for a coffee. Another place we will not visit on the boat.
