10-13 September As many of you know, Howard went away for about 10 days to help out the NZ team at the World Fishing Championships in Ronquieres, leaving me alone on Moondance in Namur. Sunday was my last day to myself so, after saying goodbye to Jo and Tim - my neighbours on Maria - who were so friendly and helpful, I went for a bike ride down the Sambre In the afternoon I did a tour of the Namur parliment house, which was open as part of the Patrimoine Day. Unfortunately my French wasn't good enough to follow all the speeches and explanations, but it was still quite interesting. On Monday Howard returned and our friends Peter and Wendy arrived on the boat for a few days. Tuesday we set off down the Sambre. We had a long day - 6.5 hours, including 4 locks, which we shared with large commercial barges. Unfortunately, toward the end of the day we identified a problem. No water in our exhaust and more grey smoke than usual. Luckily we were close to our planned destination and the engine temperature was still at normal levels. So we moored for the night. The mooring is behind a former fire station and is a lovely spot - and free - but with no services. Today (Wednesday), Howard and Peter have been trying what they can to fix or at least identify the problem. Whilst eliminating some of the possibilities they haven't been able to fix the problem, so we are looking for a mechanic that can visit us. We have contacted everyone we can think of. In the mean time, Wendy and I went for a walk in the local town. Not really on the tourist trail, but a few interesting buildings. We are off for dinner tonight and will continue the search for a mechanic tomorrow.
