12-16 September We had decided to do another trip on the Vecht as we had enjoyed it so much last year. On our first afternoon there, our guests were Andrew - a friend from Preston Photographic Club - and his wife Jo, went out for a walk while we caught up on a few jobs. But after dinner we, we went out to take some photos of the lights, even though it didn't look like it was to be much of a sunset. But to our surprise all of a sudden the sky lit up. And then my camera battery went dead, and I had to rush back to the boat for a spare. Luckily I did get a few shots in before the pink totally disappeared. The next morning Howard and Andrew went fishing along the river. After they were packed up, and some pancakes for breakfast, we headed into Utrecht on the bus. It was nice to visit the city again and we had a good walk around. We stayed in town for dinner and then took some night photos. The next morning we cruised for less than an hour to get to Breukelen. Even though it was short, it was lovely. We went for a walk into town where there was a market. We enjoyed looking around, and we purchased a few Dutch specialities like Kibbling - bite size fish pieces serves with a sauce. That evening Andrew and Jo took us out to the top restaurant in Breukelen which happened to be across the road from our boat. On Friday morning we cruised to Weesp. Another delightful cruise on the Vecht River. In Weesp we visited the nearby windmill that is run by volunteers on Saturdays. not only was the windmill running, but they were milling flour and we were allowed to roam around the windmill. I had a chat with one of the millers who was quite young - maybe 18. It was very interesting. After that we went into town for a late lunch and a walk around. In the evening there was a concert, so (after a few night photos) we headed across to enjoy the free concert. Andrew and Jo have now left us, after a fun week.

STUNNING photos, Deb! I would think Vecht businesses would like to buy those images for postcards and marketing the town, and then there are the herons ;)

Isn’t Utrecht beautiful? We spent a few days there in July staying with our friends on their gorgeous barge. They took us for a cruise all through the town on a little sloop, and we were able to enjoy the little canals. Later we rode bikes into town and ate at one if the restaurants down in the canal. Pretty place.
