Laon FR 12-14 September 2023 Karen was leaving us at Soissons on the Wednesday so Howard and I decided to take a side trip to visit Laon. Our friend Geoff stayed on the boat while we were away, to rest up after his big walk, get some washing done, and acted as security for the boat. Laon was an easy 25 minutes by train from Soissons and we took our bikes as I cannot walk far. View of the cathedral from our hotel room

Loivre, Berry-au-Bac, Cys-La-Commune FR 8-11 September 2023 From Reims we had 4 cruising days to get to Soissons. The weather was hot (31C) with hardly any breeze, so each day we cruised in the morning and when we arrived at our destination we put up the canopy and had lunch and then a lazy afternoon. In the cool of the evening we went to explore the local area. Some of these photos were provided by Karen. The friendly kids at Loivre
Reims FR 2-7 September 2023 We arrived in Reims on Saturday 2nd September and planned to leave on the Wednesday, but there was so much to see, it was a lovely city and we had a great mooring so we put it off twice and left on Friday instead.
Condé-sur-Marne, Sept-Saulx, Villiers-Marmery, Verzenay, Verzy, Sillery FR 29 August - 2 September 2023 We left Epernay on Monday for the trip to Reims. This is where it becomes more difficult without the bow thurster as the locks are only 5.2m wide (we are 4.5). Some photos and video on this blog were provided by Hilary. Silo quay at Sept-Saulx (the silo has been taken down)
Epernay FR 25-28 August 2023 We spent 4 nights in Epernay which was again quite a social time for us. Epernay is considered the capital of Champagne and its famous Avenue de Champagne has many of the most prestigious Champagne houses, and luxurious villas. Decorated bollard at Port
Charly-sur-Marne, Villiers-Saint-Denis, Chezy-sur-Marne, Chateau-Thierry, Courcelles, Dormans, Damery FR 17-25 August 2023 Well obviously we were cruising in the Champagne region, not in the drink, and we are having a pretty social time. At the port at Chateau Thierry
Iles-les-Meldeuses, La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, Courtaron, FR 15-17 August 2023 OK - Perhaps not actual wilderness. But sometimes when we are cruising along the Marne, and all you can see is the river and trees and it goes on for kms, it feels like you could be in the wilderness.
Nogent-sur-Marne, Lagny-sur-Marne, Meaux FR 9-14 August 2023 We turned of the Seine onto the Marne which was a new river for us. View from our boat in Meaux
Samois-sur-Seine, Melun, Evry, Ablon, FR 5-8 August 2023 We left Montereau-Fault-Yonne on Saturday heading upstream on the Seine. Sunset at Ablon
Sens, Pont-sur-Yonne, Montereau-Fault-Yonne FR 28 July - 4 August 2023 Summer seems to have gone away. We had more grey days ahead. We left Villeneuve for Sens on the Friday. It was raining quite heavily for most of the trip. Howard managed to do all the rope work leaving me warm and dry inside.
